Our Funds

Our Education Fund supports initiatives aimed at K-12 students and educators designed to foster passion and knowledge in the next generation of geoscientists.

The E. F. Reid Scouting Program supports the teaching of geology to Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and youth in other organizations

The Grants-In Aid Fund supports annual grants that provide financial assistance to graduate students (currently enrolled in Masters or Ph.D. programs) whose thesis research has application to the search for and development of petroleum and energy-mineral resources, and/or to related environmental geology issues. The AAPG Foundation Field Camp Scholarship program will provide eligible and deserving undergraduate level geoscience students with a one-time $3,000 grant to attend field camp. The program is powered by the L. Austin Weeks Undergraduate Grant fund thanks to generous contributors, including L. Austin Weeks and Marta Weeks-Wulf, and will provide more than $85,000 in funds to geoscience students annually. Learn more.

The Military Veterans Scholarship Program awards $2,500-$5,000 to both active U.S. military service members (including National Guard and Reserve) or honorably discharged veterans to help with the costs of a postsecondary undergraduate education in a field of geoscience. Learn more.

Our Distinguished Lecture Fund supports lecture tours on pertinent geoscience topics to universities and geological groups throughout the world. Learn more.

The Michel T. Halbouty Lecturer Fund supports an annual lecture given at the AAPG Annual Convention & Exhibition. Learn more.

The Visiting Geoscientist Fund provides campus visits by active and experienced geoscientists throughout the US, Canada, and more than 30 other countries worldwide. Learn more.

The Amoruso Special Publications Fund provides members and other industry professionals with focused and timely studies on critical scientific topics. Learn more.

Through the Newly Released Publications Fund, your one-time gift of $13,250 provides students at the university of your choice access to a continually new supply of geology publications each year. Learn more.

The Wallace Pratt Bulletin Fund helps underwrite the AAPG Bulletin, the leading peer-reviewed publication for information on geoscience and the associated technology of the energy industry.

The Awards Fund supports our annual recognition of educators through the K-12 Teacher of the Year Award and the Inspirational Geoscience Educator Award.

The Imperial Barrel Award Fund supports the Foundation’s joint award program with the APPG, providing geoscience graduate students invaluable career-development experience and more. Learn more.

Our Operating Fund makes the ongoing work of the Foundation possible by supporting staff salaries and other costs.

The General Fund exists for the discretionary use of the Trustees to support activities they deem helpful in advancing the Foundation’s mission.

The L. Austin Weeks Memorial Fund provides funding for programs and projects that promote the science of petroleum geology. The fund is unrestricted and used at the description of the Trustees.

The Mary E. and Richard D. Fritz Grant for Geoscience Publishing supports the geoscience community by providing funding to support the writing and publication of human-interest stories about geoscientists and publish geoscience work from universities, particularly master’s students’ theses.
